Get the most of your weekend trip by planning ahead. Here are some tips that might help.

CONNECT WITH FAMILY

Us your mobile device using free wifi in a restaurant, cafe or your hotel to connect with family or friends. Phone calls to let them know how your trip is going will often cost you more money—particularly roaming charges. If you do not bring a mobile device, there are often computers in hotels for guests to use at a small cost.

DECOMPRESS

Spend an hour or two each day in your hotel or at a park to relax and unwind after a busy travel day. Most people who do not take time out for relaxation during their “vacation” often feel exhausted after or during their time away and can become irritable with those around them. Even if it’s just a weekend away, you want to enjoy your vacation to the fullest. Remember the phrase, “less is more” when you are planning your itinerary.

PRE-BOOK UPCOMING ATTRACTIONS

Pre-book theatre tickets or water cruises before your trip. Often these tourist attractions get sold out and can be more expensive at the ticket booths.

SAVE ON TRANSPORTATION COSTS

If you choose to use the trains and subway stations while on your trip, ask about day passes and compare the price to the cost of a single ride. Often, this approach can save you a lot of money. Avoid paying for weekly passes unless you plan on being in that city for a while as these are not refundable.
