Goodbye Sweet Taiwan

Reflections on life in a far away land

BY REBEKA KEHL
Hey wanderers, how are you?

As some of you may know, I am leaving Taiwan soon. In eight days to be exact, August 24th at lunchtime.

Will I return? Maybe, but not right away. In a few years, it is a possibility, but I might go to Japan instead and learn Japanese, or some other country to experience new people, I don’t really know.

I have been thinking about organizing a going away party at Bai Sha Wan beach on Saturday, but I’m all out of energy. I feel more energized than I did a month ago, but I still feel somewhat drained, not how I was a year ago, steadily bubbly and bouncy. I don’t see myself throwing a party. Maybe I can just slip away from Taiwan quietly.

I don’t really know if this e-mail is a written farewell to you all, or like a call for you to tell me that you would like to say goodbye to me in a more wild and loud fashion…you be the judge ;)

You see, a month before I left Canada to come to Taiwan, I began making invitations for all my friends, distant or close (but good-hearted all the same) to come over to my home, including my relatives. The party was unique with a pile of different friends from different walks of life. People I had known six years before and people I had met that month came. People who had just recently immigrated to Canada came and other people came who were purely Canadian, eh?

Some people at that party only knew me. I knew all of them except for a group of three who a friend of mine had brought with him. It was a blast! My friends were beautiful with me and with the unknown others. Soon after, I left Canada and came here.

What is the point of me telling you telling this? Well… I don’t think I have one actually, but I will continue to include it in this e-mail nevertheless.

Goodbye if I don’t see you before I go. Take great care of yourself and be kind to all. Know that secretly many people are in love with you! Just like you are secretly in love with many other people other than yourself!

(I hope you caught my true meaning in that!!!)

OK… That’s all for now

Ingat ka lagi…!

Hope you enjoyed your time in Taiwan! Did you ever go to the infamous toilet restaurant? Here’s a great article: http://bit.ly/b3H1HR
