Has your passport expired? Maybe you’ve never applied for a passport. There’s no worries says Passport Canada. Applying for a Canadian passport can be done in these five easy steps.
1
Get an application form. Download it from Passport Canada’s website site, or pick one up from Canada Post or a Passport Canada office. You can also fill out the form online. However, you must be 16 years of age and living in Canada.
2
Complete all sections of the form, including personal information (names, place of birth), and proof of Canadian citizenship (birth certificate or Certificate of Canadian citizenship).
3
Provide at least one document to support your identity. Government issued documents such as a driver’s license or a health card.
4
Show them the money. You can pay in cash, or by certified cheque, debit or credit card, in person or through the mail. For a 24-page passport the price is $87, for a 48-page $92.
5
Before mailing, include two identical passport photos taken within the last 12 months. There are many photo specifications, so please check Passport Canada’s website for more details.
Once the forms are completed, photos acquired and cash in hand, have your guarantor sign the required forms and one passport photo. A guarantor is someone who holds a valid Canadian passport and has known you for two years. After submitting your application, wait eight weeks (if sent my mail) or two weeks (if applied in person) for your brand-new passport. Enjoy, and leave your native land behind.
All information is from Passport Canada’s website.
